Hokies tie for sixth in Louisville

The Virginia Tech women’s golf team posted a three round total of 901 and tied Memphis for sixth place at the Cardinal Cup on Sunday afternoon. The two-day event was played at the par 72, 6,393-yard University of Louisville Golf Club in Simpsonville, Kentucky.

Emily Mahar, a freshman from Brisbane, Australia, finished with a 224 and tied for 13^th place overall to lead the Hokies. She finished 18 strokes behind medalist Lauren Hartlage of host Louisville.

Amanda Hollandsworth, a redshirt junior from Floyd, Virginia, shot 225 and tied for 19^th place and Anne Taylor Hough, a junior from Spartanburg, South Carolina, shot 228 and tied for 32^nd. Elizabeth Bose, a junior from Norfolk, Virginia, shot 231 and tied for 39^th overall and Jessica Spicer, a sophomore from Bahama, North Carolina, tied for 55^th at 236.

Kristin Hearp, a redshirt freshman from Salem, Virginia, played the event as an individual. She tied for 60^th at 238.

Louisville won the tournament with a score of 877, eight strokes ahead of runner-up Illinois. Wisconsin was third at 892, East Carolina and Kent State tied for fourth at 895, six strokes ahead of the Hokies and the Tigers. Toledo was eighth at 913, Murray State was ninth at 915, Kentucky was 10^th at 921 and Charlotte was 11^th at 929. Richmond was 12^th at 930, Columbia was 13^th at 944 and Ball State was 14^th at 957. Louisville played individuals as a “B” team, but that unit does not count in team standings.

This was the Hokies’ final event of the fall season. Tech returns to action on Feb. 18-20, as they compete in the Moon Golf Invitational, hosted by Louisville. The three-day tournament will be played at the Duran Golf Club in Melbourne, Florida.
