Women's golf travels to Cardinal Cup

Hokies wrap up fall slate at Louisville

The Virginia Tech women’s golf team will close out the fall portion of the 2017-18 schedule, as they travel to Louisville, Kentucky to compete this weekend in the Cardinal Cup. The two-day event will be played at the par 72, 6,393-yard University of Louisville Golf Club.

This year’s invitational will feature a competitive regional field. The 14-team field includes seven teams in the top 50 of the first Golfstat.com rankings of the year, highlighted by No. 15 Illinois and No. 16 Kent State. The Hokies, ranked 51^st, are one of two ACC teams in the field, joining host Louisville, ranked 41^st.

This is the Hokies third trip to the Cardinal Cup. Tech has had good showings in the Bluegrass State, finishing fifth in 2015 and eighth in last season’s event.

Leading off for the Hokies will be Elizabeth Bose. The junior from Norfolk, Virginia tied for third at the Minnesota Invitational and tied for 12^th at the Lady Paladin Invitational to open this season. Bose leads the Hokies in stroke average.

Next up for Tech will be Jessica Spicer. The sophomore from Bahama, North Carolina, led the Hokies last week at the Tar Heel Invitational, tying for 43^rd place overall. She previously tied for 16^th place at the Lady Paladin Invitational and currently is third in strokes average for the Hokies.

Anne Taylor Hough will play in the third spot for Tech. The junior from Spartanburg, South Carolina, tied for 37^th at the Lady Paladin Invitational in September.

Playing in the fourth spot will be Amanda Hollandsworth. The redshirt junior from Floyd, Virginia, tied for 26^th at the Lady Paladin Invitational last month. She tied for 10^th place at last year’s Cardinal Cup.

Emily Mahar will round out the line-up for the Hokies. The freshman from Brisbane, Australia has competed in every fall tournament thus far and leads the Hokies in Crunch Time average as well as being second in stroke average. She finished 14^th at Minnesota to start off her collegiate career.

Kristin Hearp will play as an individual. The redshirt freshman from Salem, Virginia is making her season debut this weekend. She appeared in the first two events of last season before earning a medical redshirt.

The tournament will play a two-day, 54-hole schedule starting with two rounds on Saturday and the final round of Sunday. Each day will begin with a 9:15 a.m. shotgun start. Live stats will be available on Hokiesports.com, via a link from Golfstat.com.
