The Virginia Tech women’s golf team shot an opening round 304 and is in 18th place at the Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational on Friday afternoon. The three-day event is being played at the par 72, 6,379-yard UNC Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
Amanda Hollandsworth, a redshirt junior from Floyd, Virginia, shot an opening round even-par 72 and is tied for 24th place individually. She is six strokes behind co-leaders Jennifer Kupcho of Wake Forest and Molly Skapik of Louisville.
Jessica Spicer, a sophomore from Bahama, North Carolina, is tied for 64th at 76 and Anne Taylor Hough, a junior from Spartanburg, South Carolina and Emily Mahar, a freshman from Brisbane, Australia, are tied for 75th at 78. Elizabeth Bose, a junior from Norfolk, Virginia, is tied for 86th at 80.
Duke holds the team lead after a 5-under 283, one stroke ahead of South Carolina and two strokes ahead of Alabama, NC State, Arkansas, Louisville, host North Carolina, Wake Forest, Ohio State and Rollins round out the top 10. Michigan State is 11th, Vanderbilt and Virginia are tied for 12th and Michigan and Iowa are tied for 14th. Tulane is 16th at 300 and UNC Wilmington is 17th at 303, one stroke ahead of the Hokies.
