Hokies tied for fourth entering final round at Furman

The Virginia Tech women’s golf team has a two-round total of 587 and is in a tie with Kennesaw State for third place at the Lady Paladin Invitational on Saturday. The three-day event, hosted by Furman, is being played at the par 72, 6,278-yard Furman University Golf Course.

The Hokies shot a 288 on Friday and followed that with a 299 in Saturday’s second round.

Jessica Spicer, a sophomore from Bahama, North Carolina has a 1-over 145 and is tied for 11^th place individually. Spicer is nine strokes behind the leader, Jiwon Jeon of Daytona State.

Elizabeth Bose, a junior from Norfolk, Virginia, is tied for 14^th at 146 and Amanda Hollandsworth, a redshirt junior from Floyd, Virginia, is tied for 24^th at 148. Anne Taylor Hough, a junior from Spartanburg, South Carolina, is tied for 27^th at 149 and Emily Mahar, a freshman from Brisbane, Australia, is tied for 40^th at 151.

Daytona State continues to lead the tournament, at 3-under 573, four strokes ahead of host Furman. Middle Tennessee State is third at 583, four strokes ahead of the Hokies and Owls. Memphis is sixth at 591, Chattanooga is seventh at 592, Southern Mississippi is eighth at 592, UNC Wilmington is ninth at 594 and Augusta is 10^th at 595. ETSU, Ole Miss, JMU, LSU, Georgia State, Georgia Southern and Western Carolina round out the 17-team field.

The final round will be played Sunday. Tech will begin at 9 a.m. from the 10^th tee and will be grouped with Memphis and Kennesaw State. Live stats are available on Hokiesports.com, via a link from BirdieFire.com.
