Hokies travel to Lady Paladin Invitational

The Virginia Tech women’s golf team continues their season on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, at the Lady Paladin Invitational, hosted by Furman. The three-day event will be played at the par 72, 6,278-yard Furman University Golf Course.

The Hokies are part of a strong regional field this week at Furman. The 17-team field features teams from the ACC, SEC, American and Sun Belt conferences. For several competing teams, this will be their first tournament this season.

The Hokies will be led by Elizabeth Bose, from Norfolk, Virginia. The junior, shot a three-round total of 8-under 208 and tied for third place this past week at the Minnesota Invitational. At Minnesota, Bose set new school marks for lowest 18, 36 and 54 hole totals.

Playing second for Tech is Emily Mahar, a freshman from Brisbane, Australia. Emily made her collegiate debut at the Minnesota Invitational last week. She tied for 14th place at 4-under 212. Her final round 69 was Tech’s best individual round of Monday.

Playing third for the Hokies will be redshirt junior Amanda Hollandsworth. The local from Floyd, Virginia, was second on the team in scoring average last season. She won the 2017 VSGA Stroke Play Championship in June.

Anne Taylor Hough will play in the fourth spot for Tech. The junior from Spartanburg, South Carolina was fifth on the team in scoring last season. She advanced to match play at both the 2017 U.S Women’s Amateur in August and the Carolinas Women’s Match Play Championship in July.

Jessica Spicer will finish out the lineup for the Hokies after tying for 39th place at 220 and carding an eagle 2 on the par 4 eighth hole, last week at the Minnesota Invitational. The sophomore from Bahama, North Carolina, was fourth on the team in scoring average as a freshman. She won the 2017 North Carolina State Amateur.

The team will play a three-day, 54-hole tournament. There will be a practice round on Thursday and 18 holes will be played on Friday, Saturday and Sunday with a shotgun starting at 11a.m. Live stats will be available on Hokiesports.com, via a link from BirdieFire.com.
