Hokies sixth entering final round at Minnesota
Bose second individually, sets school marks

The Virginia Tech women’s golf team posted a two-round total of 4-under 572 on Monday and is in sixth place at the Minnesota Invitational. The two-day event, hosted by the University of Minnesota, is being played at the par 72, 6,248-yard Prestwick Golf Club in Woodbury, Minnesota.
The Hokies shot a 3-under 285 in Monday morning’s first round and followed that with a 1-under 287 in the afternoon’s second round. Tech was tied for fifth after the first round.
Tech’s top performer on Monday was Elizabeth Bose, who is in second place at 8-under 136, one stroke behind leader Paz Marfa of Michigan State. Bose, a junior from Norfolk, Virginia, shot a 6-under 66 in the first round, the lowest round and the lowest round in relation to par ever for a Virginia Tech women’s golfer.
Bose followed that with a 2-under 70, giving her the 136. The 8-under is the lowest score in relation to par ever by a Virginia Tech women’s golfer for 36 holes. Bose had 10 birdies and just two bogeys for her 36 holes on Monday. Marfa shot a course and tournament record 64 in the first round.
Emily Mahar, a freshman from Brisbane, Australia making her collegiate debut, is tied for 16th place at 143. Her opening round was highlighted by an eagle on the par 4 first hole, her 10th hole of the morning.
Jessica Spicer, a sophomore from Bahama, North Carolina, is tied for 46th at 147. Anne Taylor Hough, a junior from Spartanburg, South Carolina is tied for 66th at 152 and Amanda Hollandsworth, a redshirt junior from Floyd, Virginia, is tied for 69th at 153.
Michigan State holds the team lead entering the final round at 19-under 557, one stroke ahead of Southern California and seven strokes ahead of Louisville. Purdue is fourth at 568 and East Carolina is fifth at 570, two strokes ahead of the Hokies. Wisconsin and Notre Dame are tied for seventh at 573, host Minnesota is ninth at 574 and BYU is 10th at 582. Kansas State is 11th at 587, North Texas is 12th at 588, Georgia is 13th at 589 and Kansas is 14th at 596.
