Elizabeth Bose eliminated from US Women's Amateur

Rising junior falls in Round of 32 despite strong play on back nine

Virginia Tech women’s golfer Elizabeth Bose lost in the Round of 32 at the 2017 U.S. Women’s Amateur on Thursday. The week-long event is being played at the San Diego Country Club in Chula Vista, California.

Bose, a rising junior from Norfolk, Virginia, fell to Gigi Stoll of the University of Arizona, 2 down. Bose was four holes down entering the 11^th hole, but turned it on during the final eight holes, winning Nos. 12,13 and 15 to trail 1 down with three holes remaining. The players halved the 16^th and 17, before Stoll won the 18^th hole to claim the 2 Up victory.

Her outstanding play in the US Women’s Amateur caps off a strong summer for Bose and her Hokie teammates. Earlier in the summer, Bose claimed the prestigious Women’s Eastern Amateur title, while Jessica Spicer won the North Carolina Women’s State Amateur and Amanda Hollandsworth won the Virginia State Stroke Play Championship.

Bose was one of four Hokies, along with rising junior Anne Taylor Hough, rising sophomore Sarah Spicer and incoming freshman Emily Mahar to participate in the US Women’s Amateur Championship. Hough joined Bose advancing to match play.

Bose and her Virginia Tech teammates begin classes later this month and begin their regular season on Sept. 11-12, as they will compete in the Minnesota Invitational in Minneapolis, Minnesota, hosted by the University of Minnesota.
