Virginia Tech women’s golfer Elizabeth Bose won her opening match on Wednesday in match play at the 2017 U.S. Women’s Amateur. The week-long event is being played at the San Diego Country Club in Chula Vista, California.
Bose, a rising junior from Norfolk, Virginia, defeated seventh-seed Lindsey McCurdy, 2 & 1, to advance to the Round of 32. Bose, the 58th seed, was down one hole at the turn, but went on to win four of the eight contested holes on the back nine. Her par on No. 17 gave her the victory.
In the other Round of 64 match involving a Virginia Tech golfer, Anne Taylor Hough, a rising junior from Spartanburg, South Carolina, lost to Stephanie Lau, 3 & 2. Both Hough and Bose advanced into match play by surviving an 11-for-8 playoff at the end of Tuesday’s second round of stroke play.
Bose will return to action Thursday morning, as she will face the 26th-seed, Gigi Stoll of Beaverton, Oregon at 9:10 a.m. Pacific Time. Matches in the Round of 32 will be broadcast live on USGA.org.
