Jessica Spicer eliminated at North & South Amateur

Virginia Tech golfer Jessica Spicer won her opening match, but fell in the Round of 16in the first day of match play competition at the 115th North & South Amateur Championship on Wednesday afternoon. The five-day event is being played at the par 71, 6,332-yard Pinehurst #2 in Southern Pines, North Carolina.

Spicer advanced to match play following 36 holes of stroke play competition on Monday and Tuesday. She defeated Jackie Chulya of Columbia University, 1 up in Wednesday morning’s Round of 32. She advanced to the afternoon’s Round of 16, but fell to Lakareber Abe of the University of Alabama, 4 & 2. Earlier this summer, Spicer won the North Carolina State Amateur.

In other golf action on Wednesday, Amanda Hollandsworth fell to Khushboo Thiagaraj of Radford University, 1 up, in the Round of 16 at the VSGA State Amateur in Lorton, Virginia in the morning’s first round. She had advanced to match play after finishing fifth in the two rounds of stroke play.
