Jessica Spicer wins 68th North Carolina Women's Amateur

Rising sophomore wins championship by six strokes

Virginia Tech golfer Jessica Spicer posted a three-round total of 3-under 210 and claimed the 68^th North Carolina Women’s Amateur Championship on Thursday afternoon. The three-day event was played at the 5,901-yard, par 71 Pine Island Country Club in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Spicer, a rising sophomore at Virginia Tech, shot a final round 2-under 69 and won the event by six strokes over Kathryn Carson of ECU and former Alabama and Oklahoma State golfer Courtney McKim, a two-time winner of the event. Spicer played a bogey-free third round, with birdies on the fourth and sixth holes en route to the 69. Spicer’s 69 was the only score in the 60s on Thursday and the only sub-par round of the day.

This is the second time that a Spicer has claimed the trophy. Her twin sister and Virginia Tech teammate, Sarah, won the title in 2015.

This is the third championship that a member of the Virginia Tech women’s golf program has won so far this summer. Elizabeth Bose won the prestigious Women’s Eastern Amateur Championship and last week, Amanda Hollandsworth won the Virginia State Golf Association’s Women’s Stroke Play Championship.
