Elizabeth Bose wins Women's Eastern Amateur Championship

Tech golfer earns three-stroke victory in prestigious event

Virginia Tech golfer Elizabeth Bose won the 2017 Women’s Eastern Golf Championship on Thursday afternoon. The event was played at the 6.049-yard, par 72 Birdwood Golf Course at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Bose, with scores of 74-73-73=220, defeated Campbell grad and assistant coach Tahnia Ravnak by three strokes and Julia Ford of Virginia and Alexandra Farnsworth of Vanderbilt by four strokes.

Bose, a rising junior from Norfolk, Virginia, was among the leaders throughout the three-day event. She was tied for second after the first round and tied for the lead entering Thursday’s final round. Thursday’s victory adds to Bose’s outstanding record in amateur events, which includes the 2015 VSGA Junior Girls’ Championship.

Bose led the Hokies in scoring average this season. She had one top five and two additional top 20 finishes for the Hokies this season, highlighted by a third place finish at the Starmount Fall Classic in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Joining Bose in the top 10 at the Women’s Eastern Amateur was teammate Jessica Spicer, a rising sophomore from Bahama, North Carolina, who shot a three-round total of 227 and finished in sixth place. Amanda Hollandsworth, a rising junior from Floyd, Virginia, tied for 15^th place at the Eastern Amateur.

The Women’s Eastern Amateur began in 1906 and has traditionally hosted one of the top fields in women’s amateur golf. The tournament has been played at some of the finest courses on the East Coast, including Merion, Congressional, Atlanta Athletic Club and Aronimink.
