Final Results
The Virginia Tech women’s golf team posted a three round total of 30-over 894 and finished in eighth place at the Henssler Intercollegiate on Tuesday afternoon. The tournament, hosted by Kennesaw State, was played at the par 72, 6,032-yard at Pinetree Country Club in Kennesaw, Georgia on Monday and Tuesday.
The Hokies shot a 5-over 293 in Monday’s morning round and was in fourth place entering the afternoon. Tech shot 297 in the afternoon to tie Texas Tech for seventh place. The Hokies shot a 304 in Tuesday’s final round.
Allison Woodward, a redshirt sophomore from Unicoi, Tennessee, led the Hokies. She is tied for eighth place individually at 2-over 218. She finished five strokes behind medalist August Kim of Purdue. The eighth place finish for Woodward is her best collegiate result.
Elizabeth Bose, a sophomore from Norfolk, Virginia, tied for 23rd at 223 and Anne Taylor Hough, a sophomore from Spartanburg, South Carolina, is tied for 29th at 224. Whitney Stevenson, a senior from Canton, Georgia, tied for 66th at 232 and Amanda Hollandsworth, a redshirt sophomore from Floyd, Virginia, tied for 71st at 235.
Jessica Spicer, a freshman from Bahama, North Carolina, played the tournament as an individual. She tied for 29th at 224.
Kent State claimed the team title with a score of 12-over 876, one stroke better than Purdue and two strokes better than Texas Tech. Illinois was fourth at 885, Augusta was fifth at 887 and Maryland and Memphis tied for sixth at 891, three strokes ahead of the Hokies. Southern Mississippi was ninth at 895, Troy was 10th at 898, host Kennesaw State was 11th at 900, Eastern Michigan was 12th at 906, Chattanooga was 13th at 908 and Georgia Southern finished 14th at 924.
This was the Hokies’ final regular season tournament of the year. Next up is the 2017 ACC Women’s Golf Championship, to be played April 13-15 at The Reserve Golf Club in Pawley’s Island, South Carolina.
