Hokies tied for seventh entering final round at Kennesaw State

KENNESAW, Ga. – The Virginia Tech women’s golf team posted a two round total of 14-over 590 and is tied with Texas Tech for seventh place at the Henssler Intercollegiate on Monday afternoon. The tournament, hosted by Kennesaw State, is being played at the par 72, 6,032-yard at Pinetree Country Club in Kennesaw, Georgia.
The Hokies shot a 5-over 293 in the morning round and was in fourth place entering the afternoon. Tech shot 297 in the afternoon to tie the Red Raiders, ranked 37th nationally by Golfstat.com.
Allison Woodward, a redshirt sophomore from Unicoi, Tennessee, leads the Hokies. She is tied for 12th place individually at 1-over 145. She trails the co-leaders, Pimnipa Panthong of Kent State and Panitta Yusabai of Maryland by five strokes.
Elizabeth Bose, a sophomore from Norfolk, Virginia, is tied for 19th at 147 and Anne Taylor Hough, a sophomore from Spartanburg, South Carolina, is tied for 23rd at 148. Amanda Hollandsworth, a redshirt sophomore from Floyd, Virginia is tied for 55th at 152 and Whitney Stevenson, a senior from Canton, Georgia, is tied for 59th at 153. Hollandsworth eagled the par 5, 467-yard ninth hole in the afternoon round.
Jessica Spicer, a freshman from Bahama, North Carolina, is playing the tournament as an individual. She is tied for 30th at 149.
Purdue leads the tournament with a 1-under 575, three strokes ahead of Memphis and six strokes ahead of Kent State. Maryland is fourth at 582, Southern Mississippi is fifth at 587 and Illinois is sixth at 589, one stroke ahead of the Hokies and Red Raiders. Host Kennesaw State and Augusta are tied for ninth at 594, Troy is 11th at 595, Eastern Michigan is 12th at 597, Chattanooga is 13th at 602 and Georgia Southern is 14th at 609.
The final round will begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. on Tuesday morning. Live scoring will be available on Hokiesports.com, via a link from Golfstat.com.
