BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech women’s golf team posted a three-round total of 925 and finished in 11th place at the 3M Augusta Invitational on Sunday afternoon. The three-day, 54-hole event was played at the par 72, 6,428-yard Forest Hills Country Club in Augusta, Georgia.
The Hokies shot a 308 on Friday and followed that with 309 on Saturday afternoon. Tech shot a 308 on Sunday.
Amanda Hollandsworth, a redshirt sophomore from Floyd, Virginia, led the Hokies. She carded a three-round total of 6-over 222 and tied for 13th place. Hollandsworth finished 18 strokes behind medalist Jessica Haigwood of host Augusta. This is Hollandsworth’s third top 15 finish this season.
Whitney Stevenson, a senior from Canton, Georgia, tied for 52nd at 233 and Elizabeth Bose, a sophomore from Norfolk, Virginia, tied for 60th at 238. Jessica Spicer, a freshman from Bahama, North Carolina, finished in 66th place at 242 and Allison Woodward, a redshirt sophomore from Unicoi, Tennessee, tied for 67th at 243.
Anne Taylor Hough, a sophomore from Spartanburg, South Carolina, played this tournament as an individual. She tied for 24th overall at 226. She was second among the eight individuals that competed at Augusta.
Purdue won the 54-hole event, with a 14-over 878, four strokes ahead of Tennessee and seven strokes ahead of Augusta. Memphis was fourth at 888, Troy was fifth at 893, Kennesaw State was sixth at 903 and Ole Mis, East Tennessee State and Daytona State tied for seventh at 907. Columbia was 10th at 921, four strokes ahead of the Hokies. James Madison was 12th at 928 and Coastal Carolina and Eastern Michigan tied for 13th at 932.
The Hokies return to action on March 27-28, as they travel to suburban Atlanta to compete in the Henssler Intercollegiate at the Pinetree Country Club in Kennesaw, Georgia, hosted by Kennesaw State.
