Hokies tied for 11th at 3M Augusta Invitational

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech women’s golf team posted an opening round 308 and is tied with Columbia for 11th place at the 3M Augusta Invitational on Friday afternoon. The three-day, 54-hole event is being played at the par 72, 6,428-yard Forest Hills Country Club in Augusta, Georgia.

Anne Taylor Hough, a sophomore from Spartanburg, South Carolina, leads the Hokies in the event. She shot a 1-under 71 and is tied for fourth. She trails leader Jiwon Jeon of Daytona State by six strokes.

Whitney Stevenson, a senior from Canton, Georgia, leads the Tech starters. She carded a 73 and is tied for 14th. Amanda Hollandsworth, a redshirt sophomore from Floyd, Virginia, is tied for 39th at 76 and Jessica Spicer, a freshman from Bahama, North Carolina, is tied for 51st at 78. Allison Woodward, a redshirt sophomore from Unicoi, Tennessee, is tied for 65th at 81 and Elizabeth Bose, a sophomore from Norfolk, Virginia, is tied for 74th at 83.

Daytona State leads the tournament following the first round. The posted a 1-under 287, one stroke better than Purdue and Tennessee and five strokes ahead of Memphis. Kennesaw State is fifth at 297, Troy is sixth at 298, East Tennessee State is seventh at 300 and Ole Miss is eighth at 301. Coastal Carolina is ninth at 305 and host Augusta is 10th at 207, one stroke ahead of the Hokies and Lions. James Madison is 13th at 310 and Eastern Michigan is 14th at 311.

Round two will be played Saturday, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Tech will be grouped with Columbia and Augusta, beginning at 9:55 a.m., from the 10th tee. Live scoring will be available on Hokiesports.com, via a link from Golfstat.com.
