GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Virginia Tech women’s golf team posted a three-round total of 899 and finished in ninth place at the SunTrust Gator Invitational on Sunday afternoon. The two-day, 54-hole event was played at the 6,701-yard, par 70 Mark Bostick Golf Course at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida.

Tech shot a 295 in the Saturday morning round and followed that with a 304 in the afternoon session. Tech shot 300 on Sunday.

Elizabeth Bose, a sophomore from Norfolk, Virginia, led the Hokies. She shot an 8-over 218 and tied for 14th place. She finished 13 strokes behind medalist Maria Torres of host Florida.

Allison Woodward, a redshirt sophomore from Unicoi, Tennessee, tied for 35th at 226 and Whitney Stevenson, a senior from Canton, Georgia and Amanda Hollandsworth, a redshirt junior from Floyd, Virginia, tied for 44th at 228. Jessica Spicer, a freshman from Bahama, North Carolina, tied for 69th at 235.

Anne Taylor Hough, a sophomore from Spartanburg, South Carolina, played the event as an individual. She tied for 59th at 231 and was fifth among individual competitors in the tournament.

Host Florida, ranked sixth nationally, won the tournament at 7-over 847, eight strokes better than No. 11 Duke and 16 strokes ahead of No. 25 UCF. Campbell finished fourth at 882, Clemson was fifth at 884 and Maryland was sixth at 889. FIU was seventh at 890 and South Florida was eighth at 897, two strokes ahead of the Hokies. Troy was 10th at 901, Wisconsin was 11th at 902, Mercer was 12th at 909 and Kansas was 13th at 919.

The tournament concludes the Hokies’ three-event swing through the Sunshine State. Tech returns to action this Friday, as they compete in the 3M Augusta Invitational in Augusta, Georgia.
