Hokies eighth entering final round at SunTrust Gator Invitational

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Virginia Tech women’s golf team posted a two-round total of 39-over 599 and is in eighth place at the SunTrust Gator Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The two-day, 54-hole event is being played Saturday and Sunday at the 6,701-yard, par 70 Mark Bostick Golf Course at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida.
Tech shot a 295 in the morning round and followed that with a 304 in the afternoon session.
Elizabeth Bose, a sophomore from Norfolk, Virginia, leads the Hokies entering the final round. She shot a 6-over 146 and is tied for 12th place. She trails leader Leona Maguire of Duke by eight strokes.
Allison Woodward, a redshirt sophomore from Unicoi, Tennessee, is tied for 17th at 147 and Whitney Stevenson, a senior from Canton, Georgia, is tied for 38th at 151. Amanda Hollandsworth, a redshirt junior from Floyd, Virginia, is tied for 59th at 155 and Jessica Spicer, a freshman from Bahama, North Carolina, is tied for 68th at 157. Hollandsworth eagled the par 5, 475-yard 12th hole in the morning round.
Anne Taylor Hough, a sophomore from Spartanburg, South Carolina, is playing the event as an individual. She is tied for 27th at 149 and is third among individual competitors in the tournament.
Host Florida, ranked sixth nationally, leads the tournament at 5-over 565, seven strokes better than No. 11 Duke and 14 strokes ahead of No. 25 UCF. Campbell is fourth at 589, Maryland is fifth at 590, FIU is sixth at 595 and No. 38 Clemson is seventh at 597, two strokes ahead of the Hokies. South Florida is ninth at 601, Troy is 10th at 605, Kansas is 11th at 608, Wisconsin is 12th at 609 and Mercer is 13th at 612.
The final round will be played on Sunday morning with a 9:15 a.m. shotgun start.
