Hokies conclude Florida trip at SunTrust Gator Invitational
Strong field awaits Tech in Gainesville

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech women’s golf team wraps up their three-event trip to the Sunshine State at the SunTrust Gator Invitational. The two-day, 54-hole event will be played Saturday and Sunday at the 6,701-yard, par 70 Mark Bostick Golf Course at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. The Hokies have played events in Miami and Jacksonville during this two-week trip.
The 13-team event features three teams in the Golfstat.com top 25, led by host, No. 6 Florida. Tech is one of three ACC teams in the tournament, along with 11th-ranked Duke and 38th-ranked Clemson. In all, five schools in the event are ranked in the top 50 nationally.
Whitney Stevenson will play in the first position in Gainesville. The senior from Canton, Georgia was fourth on the team in scoring in the fall and end the fall season on a strong note, finishing 16th at the Cardinal Cup in Louisville. She posted her best showing of the season with a sixth place finish at UNF earlier this week
Elizabeth Bose will play in the second position. The sophomore from Norfolk, Virginia led the Hokies in stroke average in the fall and had the second-best “Crunch Time” average. She finished third individually at UNCG in the fall and had a 15th place finish at Furman. She tied for 28th in the Hokies’ first event of the spring in Miami.
Jessica Spicer will play in the third position for the Hokies. The freshman from Bahama, North Carolina was third on the team in scoring in the fall and fourth in “Crunch Time” scoring. She finished 20th at ECU and had her best showing with an eighth place finish at UNCG. She tied with Bose for 28th at Miami.
Amanda Hollandsworth will play fourth for Tech. The redshirt sophomore from Floyd, Virginia was second on the team in scoring average in the fall and led the team in “Crunch Time” scoring. She had two top 10 finishes in the fall, highlighted by a fourth place finish at Furman.
Allison Woodward will play in the fifth spot for the Hokies. The redshirt sophomore from Unicoi, Tennessee played in three fall events and had her best finish at UNCG, where she placed 31st. She led the Hokies with a 20th place finish in Miami earlier this month.
Anne Taylor Hough will play the event as an individual. The sophomore from Spartanburg, South Carolina had a top 20 finish at UNCG and was fifth on the team in stroke average in the fall.
The teams will have a practice round on Friday and begin play with 36 holes on Saturday. The Hokies will be grouped with FIU and Maryland in the 8:15 a.m. shotgun start. The final round will be played on Sunday morning with a 9:15 a.m. shotgun start.
