Hokies continue Florida swing in Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Virginia Tech women’s golf team will continue on its swing through the state of Florida, as they compete in the UNF Collegiate on Monday and Tuesday. The 54-hole event will be played at the 6,002-yard, par 72 Jacksonville Golf and Country Club in Jacksonville, Florida.

This is the second of three tournaments the Hokies will play in Florida over the spring break period. Tech will play in the SunTrust Gator Invitational in Gainesville over next weekend.

Elizabeth Bose will play in the first position. The sophomore from Norfolk, Virginia led the Hokies in stroke average in the fall and had the second-best “Crunch Time” average. She finished third individually at UNCG in the fall and had a 15th place finish at Furman. She tied for 28th last week in the Hokies’ first event of the spring in Miami.

Allison Woodward will play in the second spot for the Hokies. The redshirt sophomore from Unicoi, Tennessee played in three fall events and had her best finish at UNCG, where she placed 31st. She led the Hokies with a 20th place finish in Miami last week.

Amanda Hollandsworth will play third for Tech. The redshirt sophomore from Floyd, Virginia was second on the team in scoring average in the fall and led the team in “Crunch Time” scoring. She had two top 10 finishes in the fall, highlighted by a fourth place finish at Furman.

Whitney Stevenson will play in the fourth position in Miami. The senior from Canton, Georgia was fourth on the team in scoring in the fall and end the fall season on a strong note, finishing 16th at the Cardinal Cup in Louisville.

Jessica Spicer will play in the fifth position for the Hokies. The freshman from Bahama, North Carolina was third on the team in scoring in the fall and fourth in “Crunch Time” scoring. She finished 20th at ECU and had her best showing with an eighth place finish at UNCG. She tied with Bose for 28th at Miami last week

Anne Taylor Hough will play the event as an individual. The sophomore from Spartanburg, South Carolina had a top 20 finish at UNCG and was fifth on the team in stroke average in the fall.

The 16-team event features a field from the Southeastern US. Tech is the only ACC team in the field. Campbell is the highest ranked team in the field at 46 in the Golfweek/Sagarin poll.

The Hokies will play a practice round on Sunday, before playing the first two rounds on Monday. The final round will be played on Tuesday. Live scoring will be available on Hokiesports.com, via a link from Golfstat.com.
