Redshirt sophomore Amanda Hollandsworth shot 3-over par through the final 18 holes and finished in a tie for 10th, as the Virginia Tech women’s golf team completed its fall slate at the Cardinal Cup on Tuesday, at the University of Louisville Golf Club, in Simpsonville, Kentucky.
The Hokies finished the tournament in eighth place with a score of 312-302-305=919 for 55-over par. Of note, Tech was one of two unranked teams to finish in the top eight among a 17-team field. The top-six finishers were ranked inside the top 50.
Hollandsworth paced the Hokies’ with a three-day total of 78-72-75=225. The Floyd, Virginia, native was the only Hokie to shot an even-par 72 throughout the 54-hole tournament. Hollandsworth finished in the top 10 for the second time this fall.
Senior Whitney Stevenson also marked her best finish this fall, tying for 16th individually with a 78-75-73=226 for 10-over par. Sophomore Elizabeth Bose finished four strokes behind Stevenson in a tie for 27th place at 230.
Freshman Jessica Spicer also tied for 56th place, followed by redshirt sophomore Allison Woodward in 88th place.
Of note, senior Mary-Katelyn Holanek played the event as an individual and finished tied for 76th place overall.
No. 7 Florida State took home the team title, shooting an 876 to finish 12-over par. Runner-up No. 42 Wisconsin was 34-over par with an 898, while No. 48 Kentucky took third at 37-over par (901). Of note, Wisconsin’s Brooke Ferrell was crowned the individual champion and is only the second player in event history to repeat as champion.
Virginia Tech resumes competition in February. The Hokies travel to Miami, Florida, for the Hurricane Invitational set for Feb. 27-March 1.
