SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. -- The Virginia Tech women’s golf team has a two-day total of 38-over 614 and moves up one spot to seventh place at Cardinal Cup on Monday afternoon. The three-day event is being played at the par 72, 6,393-yard University of Louisville Golf Club in suburban Simpsonville, Kentucky.
The Hokies posted a 312 in Sunday’s first round and improved 10 strokes to 302 in the second round. Tech had the fifth-best round of the day.
Amanda Hollandsworth, a redshirt sophomore from Floyd, Virginia, fired an even-par 72 on Monday to lead the Hokies. Her two-day total of 6-over 150 ties her for seventh individually heading into Tuesday’s final round. She trails leader Brooke Ferrell of Wisconsin by seven strokes. Hollandsworth was one of six players to play par-or-better in the second round.
Whitney Stevenson, a senior from Canton, Georgia, is tied for 21st at 153 and Elizabeth Bose, a sophomore from Norfolk, Virginia is tied for 32nd at 155. Jessica Spicer, a freshman from Bahama, North Carolina, is tied for 37th at 156 and Allison Woodward, a redshirt sophomore from Unicoi, Tennessee, is tied for 87th at 166. Mary-Katelyn Holanek, a senior from Cary, North Carolina is playing the event as an individual and is tied for 60th at 161.
Florida State continues to lead the tournament. They have a two-round total of 593 and lead Wisconsin by four strokes and Kentucky by 10 strokes. Illinois is fourth at 604 and East Carolina and host Louisville are tied for fifth at 613, just one stroke ahead of the Hokies. Maryland is eighth at 620 and Cincinnati and Columbia are tied for ninth at 623. In all, 16 teams are competing in the event. Louisville has a “B” team entered, but is not eligible for team honors.
The final round will be played on Tuesday morning. There will be a 9:30 a.m. shotgun start and the Hokies will be grouped with Maryland and Cincinnati.
