BLACKSBURG- The Virginia Tech women’s golf team travels to Simpsonville, Kentucky, to compete in its final event of the fall season. The Cardinal Cup, hosted by Louisville, is held at the U of L Golf Club, a par 72 course stretching 6,393 yards.
The 54-hole tournament features three days of competition from Oct. 23-25, with competitors completing one round each day. Rounds are set to begin at 10 a.m.
The 16-team field includes FSU, Illinois, ECU, Wisconsin, Kentucky, Maryland, Columbia, Middle Tennessee, Minnesota, Kansas, Cincinnati, Richmond, Bradley, Ball State and Louisville.
Tech’s lineup features redshirt sophomores Amanda Hollandsworth and Allison Woodward, sophomore Elizabeth Bose, freshman Jessica Spicer and senior Whitney Stevenson. Senior Mary-Katelyn Holanek is competing in the tournament as an individual. Spicer is coming off a career performance at the Greenville Regional Preview, leading the Hokies in a tie for 20th place overall.
As a team, the Hokies finished 13 out of 16 competing teams last week at the Greenville Preview.
Since its inception in 2002, the Cardinal Cup has been an annual event that features some of the most talented teams in the nation. Louisville has collected wins on seven occasions, including the last three straight seasons.
