BLACKSBURG - The Virginia Tech women’s golf team opened play at the Starmount Forest Fall Classic on Monday, shooting 321-303=624 to sit in fifth place after 36-holes of play at the Starmount Forest Country Club, in Greensboro, North Carolina.
The Hokies posted a 56-over par 624 score on the day, opening with a 321 in round one before improving 18 strokes in round two with a 303. Tennessee Tech holds the team lead at 35-over par 603. Host UNC Greensboro and Winthrop are tied for second place at 616. Marshall is fourth at 623, one stroke ahead of the Hokies.
The Hokies had two players finish in the top 15 and all five in the lineup were in the top 33.
Sophomore Elizabeth Bose leads the way for the Hokies. The Norfolk, Virginia, native sits alone in sixth place, just five shots out of the lead. Bose posted a 9-over par 151 score as she opened with an 8-over par 79 in round one and a 1-over par 72 in round two. She recorded four birdies in the opening round.
Freshman Jessica Spicer is tied for 13th place with a 13-over par 155 score. Senior Whitney Stevenson is tied for 26th place overall with a 19-over par 160. Sophomore Anne Taylor Hough is tied for 30th place overall, sitting one stroke behind Stevenson with a 161. Redshirt sophomore Amanda Hollandsworth is tied for 33rd place overall with a 162.
Redshirt sophomore Allison Woodward and senior Mary-Katelyn Holanek played as individuals. Woodward posted a 156 and is tied for 17th and Holanek carded a 160 and is tied for 26th place.
The final round of competition is set to begin at 9 a.m. in a shotgun start on Tuesday.
