BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech women’s golf team had a strong start to the Lady Paladin Invitational, today, battling its way to seventh place after 18 holes of play, at the Furman University Golf Course, in Greenville, South Carolina.

Day One Results

The Hokies are right in the mix in the team standings, and are one of seven teams under the 291 mark. The 291 score is a season-low for Tech. After an impressive start, the squad limited its mistakes and kept its composure throughout 18 holes of play to sit two strokes behind Ole Miss in sixth. Furman leads the field at 7-under with a total score of 281, while Middle Tennessee (-6) and Texas (-5) round out the top three.

Redshirt sophomore Amanda Hollandsworth leads the way, shooting a career-low 67 for 5-under par. Hollandsworth sits in second place overall, behind Texas’ Emilee Hoffman with a score of 65.

Sophomore Elizabeth Bose is tied for 17th overall, shooting even par 72, while sophomore Anne Taylor Hough is three strokes behind her in a tie for 48th place at 3-over par (75).

Freshman Jessica Spicer played in her second event for the Hokies, shooting 5-over par (77).

Senior Mary-Katelyn Holanek rounded out the Hokie lineup at 11-over par (83) and is tied for 107th place overall. Freshman Kristin Hearp also had an excellent outing in just her second competition of the season, filling the individual spot for the Hokies. Hearp shot 11-over par and also is tied for 107th.

The three-day event continues tomorrow, as the Hokies will shoot another round of 18 at the Furman University Golf Course. Tee time is set for 9 a.m.
