BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech women’s golf team finished the third and final round of the 20th annual Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championships, on Tuesday, to place 15th overall in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Tech posted a team score of 308, 24-over par, in the third and final round of the tournament, finishing the event with an overall team score of 914 (310-296-308=914), 62-over par.
Florida won the event, leading the field at 2-under with a total score of 850, while Illinois (+3) and Kent State (+3) tied for second.
Redshirt sophomore Amanda Hollandsworth paced the Hokies at 5-over par (77-70-71=218). Hollandsworth was tied for 35th at the end of the second round, but rallied in the third and final round of competition to finish the tournament tied for 23rd place overall. Sophomore Elizabeth Bose finished eight strokes behind Hollandsworth, placing 54th overall (76-70-80=226).
Freshman Jessica Spicer completed the day at 7-over par, shooting 78 in the third round. Spicer finished the tournament tied for 65th place overall (76-77-78=231), while redshirt Allison Woodward tied for 78th place overall at 29-over par (84-79-79=242).
Freshman Kristin Hearp rounded out the Hokie lineup at 39-over par (81-85-86=252) to finish 80th place overall.
Following a week off from competition, the Hokies will return to the course for the Lady Paladin Invitational at Furman University on Sept. 23-25, in Greenville, South Carolina.
