BLACKSBURG – A slow start has the Virginia Tech women’s golf team sitting alone in 15th place through two rounds of play at the 20th annual Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championships, today, in Knoxville, Tennessee.
The Hokies posted a team score of 310, 26-over par, in the first round of play. Tech came out strong in the second round, but fell to 12-over par with a team score of 296. After 36 holes of play, the Hokies sit at 38-over par (310-296=606) heading into the third and final round of the event tomorrow morning.
Sophomore Elizabeth Bose paces the Hokies at 4-over par (76-70=146) and is tied for 28th place, while redshirt sophomore Amanda Hollandsworth is one stroke behind her in a tie for 35th at 5-over par (77-70=147).
Freshman Jessica Spicer started strong in her collegiate debut before finishing the day at 11-over par (76-77=153), while redshirt sophomore Allison Woodward is tied for 78th at 21-over par (84-79=163).
Freshman Kristin Hearp rounded out the Hokie lineup at 24-over par (81-85=166).
Illinois leads the field at 5-under with a total score of 563, while Kent State (+1) and Florida (+2) round out the top three.
The Hokies will tee off in tomorrow’s third and final round at 9 a.m. in a shotgun start.
