Hokies surge on final day to finish fifth at Cardinal Cup

Hough and Woodward lead Tech to best finish of season

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Back-to-back rounds of 298 helped the Hokies surge up the leaderboard for a season-high fifth place finish at the Cardinal Cup on Tuesday.

Freshman Anne Taylor Hough and redshirt freshman Allison Woodward led the team with personal season-low scores of 73 in the final round, finishing with eight and seven birdies, respectively. Woodward finished in a tie for 14^th place, her best of the season, and Hough earned her first top-40 finish of 2015. Freshman Nicolette Donovan added another birdie on Tuesday, bringing her week total to eight, leading the team along with Hough and freshman Elizabeth Bose.

Bose backed up her teammate, shooting a four-over 76 to finish the tournament at five-over, earning her third straight top-15 finish in a tie for ninth. The Hokies moved up the leaderboard on Tuesday thanks to a combined 298, a mark good for the second lowest score on the course in the final round. Their fifth-place finish marks the best performance of the year from the young squad in their third outing of the inaugural season.

The Hokies will return to action on Sunday, October 25, when they head back to South Carolina for the Palmetto Intercollegiate on Kiawah Island.
