Hokies hold on to sixth place after day two of Lady Paladin Invite
Tech passes UNC after four-over second round

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Improving their score with a four-over second round, the Hokies finished Monday in sole possession of sixth place after the second day of competition at the Lady Paladin Invitational, surpassing ACC competitor North Carolina.

Freshman Nicolette Donovan was the team’s low man for the second day in a row, shooting even-par with three birdies. Moving into a tie for ninth place, the Ponte Verda, Fla., native was one of only 16 members of the 96 player field to shoot at or below par.

Donovan was backed up by fellow freshman Elizabeth Bose and redshirt freshman Amanda Hollandsworth, who each improved two strokes on yesterday’s score to finish at one-over. Hollandsworth and Bose added a combined three birdies to the team’s tally. Redshirt freshman Allison Woodward added to yesterday’s strong start with five birdies of her own, finished the day at two-over. Each member of the Virginia Tech lineup improved their scores in the second round, the only team in the field to boast all-around improvement.

Led by Donovan, the Hokies sit 10 shots out of the lead in the team’s first varsity competition. Tech will take the course starting at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday for the final round, paired with host school Furman and New Mexico, with freshman Anne Taylor Hough hitting the links first. Junior Whitney Stevenson, playing as an individual, will also tee off at 9:00 a.m.
