Tech women ranked No. 21 entering ACC Outdoor Championships

NEW ORLEANS – With the ACC Outdoor Championships three days away, the Virginia Tech track and field women’s team finds itself ranked No. 21 in the latest United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), announced on Monday afternoon.

The women were ranked the 21^st-best team in the land two weeks ago before moving up to No. 19 last week, resulting in a drop by two spots in this week’s ranking.

The last time out for the Hokies entailed five event titles, including four on the women’s side. Kennedy Dennis ran the third-fastest time in school history in the 100-meter dash, recording a time of 11.56 to win it. Fellow freshman Caitlan Tate took second. Shanel Burr crossed the finish line in 13.76 in the 100-meter hurdles, marking her first event title of the outdoor season. Nora McKiver won the 400-meter hurdles, marking her first event title this year, too.

Redshirt senior Olivia Privitera placed fourth in the pole vault, clearing a height of 3.67 meters (12 feet, 0.5 inches).

The Hokies are one of only two schools to be ranked on the women’s side, and are the highest of the two, as Miami sits No. 22.

The ACC Outdoor Championships begin on Thursday, starting with the multi-events and concluding on Saturday evening with the 4x400-meter relays.
