Pocratsky earns second ACC Performer of the Week

It marks the second ACC honor for the distance runner

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Rachel Pocratsky of Virginia Tech’s track and field team has been named ACC Women’s Track Performer of the Week, as announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon.

The junior broke the school record in the mile at the Music City Challenge last weekend, crossing the finish line in 4 minutes, 34.01 seconds to place first. It marked the third event title for Pocratsky, as well as her second ACC Performer of the Week honor this season.

Pocratsky’s time reset the Vanderbilt Multipurpose Facility record, topping Chelsea Sodaro’s time (4:35.83) set in 2016. Also in 2016 was when Tech’s Shannon Morton set the program record in the indoor mile, with a time of 4:35.74.

Pocratsky, a native of Gaithersburg, Maryland, now has established two Tech records this season, owning the top indoor time in the mile and 1,000-meter race (2:41.98). Her time in the mile ranks sixth nationally and first in the ACC, while her time in the 1,000 meters is No. 1 in the country and first in the conference.

Three others were selected by the ACC for the weekly awards, including Syracuse’s Justyn Knight (Men Track), Florida State’s Corion Knight (Men Field) and Virginia’s Kelly McKee (Women Field).

The Hokies will compete one final time in the indoor regular season, heading up on Highway 81 to Roanoke for the Roanoke Tune-Up on Friday.
