Baxter named Track and Field News All-American

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. – In the October edition of the Track and Field News magazine, Virginia Tech freshman Rachel Baxter was named first-team All-American after her stellar senior year at Canyon High School.

Baxter, a pole vaulter, is one of five members on the All-American list for pole vaulting, including Carson Dingler (Forsyth, Ga.), Anna Watson (Lewis Center, Ohio), Katie Jones (South Williamsport, Pa.) and Becky Arbiv (Sandy Springs, Ga.). The honor marks Baxter’s second consecutive Track and Field News All-American selection.

The California native had quite the prep career, racking up the 2017 Pan American Junior Championship, setting the NFHS, California, Orange County and Canyon High School record pole vault mark and winning the Canyon Female Athlete of the Year twice.

Baxter will be competing for the Hokies for the first time this upcoming season, as she enrolled on Blacksburg’s campus in the fall.
