Gunnarsson gears up for IAAF World Championships
Hokies incoming freshman will compete in the pole vault event

BLACKSBURG – Incoming freshman Lisa Gunnarsson will head to London to compete at the 2017 International Association of Athletics Federations World Championships in the pole vault event on Friday at 2:45 p.m. ET.
Gunnarrson, who took the gold medal at the European Junior Championships on July 22, is one of 32 athletes who will partake in the pole vault, representing 19 countries. If she advances to the finals, competitors start vaulting at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
Hailing from Sweden, Gunnarsson enters the event with the 25th-best mark among the group, owning a personal-best vault of 4.55 meters (14 feet, 11 inches). She is the youngest competitor in the event.
Competition is from Aug. 4-13 and fans will be able to watch the best athletes in the world - a record 2,038 athletes from 205 teams participate in the British capital.
Action from the London Stadium, venue of the 2012 Olympic Games, will be available to watch across all of the IAAF’s continental areas via YouTube, Facebook Live and NBC's family of networks.
