BLACKSBURG – Nora McKiver of the Virginia Tech women’s track and field team placed 15th overall in the 60-meter hurdles at the 2017 USA Track and Field Indoor Championships Sunday, held inside the Albuquerque Convention Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

McKiver ran the event in 8.53 seconds to place 15th in the semifinal round. Of note, only the top three times in each of the two heats advanced to the finals along with the next two best times. Keni Harrison of adidas boasted a top time of 7.81 seconds for the win.

McKiver, a senior from High Point, North Carolina, qualified for the 60-meter hurdles at the Hokie Invitational on Jan. 19, after running the event in 8.39 seconds. She came in second place, just a hundredth of a second behind Florida’s Timetria Mitchell. Since qualifying for the USA Championships, McKiver eclipsed a new personal-best time of 8.34 seconds, winning the event at the Virginia Tech Challenge on Feb. 17.

Of note, McKiver took a redshirt season during the Hokies’ indoor campaign, running unattached at five meets this season. She took a redshirt season because of an injury during Tech’s outdoor season last spring, so she’ll have both indoor and outdoor eligibility in 2018 as a fifth-year senior.
