Volz named ACC Men's Field Performer of the Week
The sophomore won the Hokie Invitational with a vault of 5.51 meters, the fifth-best indoor vault in Tech history

BLACKSBURG – Following his performance at the Hokie Invitational last weekend, Deakin Volz has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Men’s Field Performer of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.
Facing some of the best competition in the nation – the meet featured Florida, the No. 1 men’s team in the country – Volz won with a vault of 5.51 meters (18 feet, 1 inch), earning the Hokies’ their first weekly conference honor of the season.
In addition to tying for the third-best mark in the nation so far this season, Volz’s vault stands as an indoor personal best for the Bloomington, Indiana, sophomore and as the fifth-best indoor vault in Tech history.
Duke’s pole vaulter Madison Heath and Louisville thrower Dolly Nyemah were named the Women’s Field Co-Performers of the Week. Miami’s Shakima Wimbley was recognized as the ACC Women’s Track Performer of the Week for the second week in a row and was joined by Men’s Track Performer of the Week Darryl Haraway of Florida State.
A contingent from Tech will compete at the Penn State National Invitational held Friday and Saturday in State College, Pennsylvania, while the sprinters and hurdlers travel to Clemson, South Carolina, for the Bob Pollock Invitational.
