Muldoon currently third in heptathlon at Hokie Invitational
The multi-event athlete was the only Tech competitor on the first day of the meet

BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech’s Mackenzie Muldoon was the Hokies’ lone competitor on day No. 1 of the Hokie Invitational being held at Rector Field House, and he currently sits in third place in the men’s heptathlon event.
Only four events of the men’s heptathlon were scheduled for the day, as most of the action commences Friday. Muldoon won the long jump, finished second in the 60 and claimed third in both the shot put and the high jump. He accumulated 2,612 points, which is 178 points behind Grant Rivers of NC State, who leads the competition.
The final three events of the heptathlon include the 60-meter hurdles, the pole vault and the 1,000-meter run. Those will be held Friday, starting at 11 a.m. The women’s pentathlon starts at 11:15 a.m.
Virginia Tech’s runners, hurdles and jumpers start competing Friday at 5 p.m.
Thirteen teams are competing in the Hokie Invitational, including Florida, which features the No. 1-ranked men’s team in the nation, NC State, Duke, Coastal Carolina and Charlotte among others.
Saturday’s action starts at 11 a.m. as well. Admission to the Hokie Invitational is free.
