BLACKSBURG – Fourteen Virginia Tech track and field student-athletes were named to the All-ACC Academic Team for track and field as announced by ACC Commissioner John Swofford on Wednesday.

Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade-point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.

The 14 Tech athletes on the All-Academic were the second-most of any ACC school except for Duke. That contingent included 10 members of the Hokies’ ACC champion men’s team, which also represented the most of any school. The Tech men scored 129 points at the ACC’s outdoor meet in May en route to their second outdoor title since the school joined the league for the 2004-05 season and their sixth ACC title overall in track and field and cross country.

The Tech men on the team were Marek Barta (business information technology), Vincent Ciattei (engineering sciences), Torben Laidig (biochemistry and biology), Jeffrey Linta (marketing), Jaka Muhar (accounting), Matija Muhar (multimedia journalism), Mackenzie Muldoon (human nutrition, foods, and exercise), James Steck (creative writing), Chris Uhle (human nutrition, foods, and exercise), and Manuel Ziegler (industrial systems engineering).

The four Tech women on the team were Hanna Green (interior design), Sabine Kopplin (business information technology), Hannah Meador (human nutrition, foods, and exercise), and Teagan Rasche (multimedia journalism).
