EUGENE, Ore. - Sabine Kopplin and Hanna Green represented the Tech track & field team on day two of the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Hayward Field.
Kopplin placed 14th overall to be named to the All-American second team, her third all-American honor (first team in 2014, second team in 2015).
The pair each got off to a strong start, but ultimately, came up short to miss the final in their respective events.
Kopplin set the bar high in the first position in the first of two flights of the javelin. The senior recorded a season best of 49.15 meters (161-3) on her first throw. She one-upped herself on the final throw with a 49.90-meter (163-8) mark, securing the fifth place position at the conclusion of the first flight.
Green led from the get-go of the 800 meters through the first three turns. However, the junior tripped up and fell out of the lead position. Green finished 19th overall, narrowly missing second-team All-American. The ACC champion qualified for the US Olympic Trials with her 2:02.45-time and will return to Hayward Field in July.
Marek Barta and Thomas Curtin will represent the Hokies on day three of the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, beginning at 8:05 p.m. ET.
