South Carolina transfer to join Tech track & field
Gregory Chiles will enroll in the fall

BLACKSBURG - Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Dave Cianelli announced the addition of Gregory Chiles, a transfer from the University of South Carolina. The sprinter and hurdler will join the Hokies’ track & field team for the 2016-2017 season as a junior.

University of South Carolina: Chiles spent two years at USC competing in both the indoor and outdoor seasons. He set a personal best of 21.42 in the 200-meter dash and 52.13 in the 400-meter hurdles. Chiles was a member of the 4x400-meter relay team, clocking in at 3:08.84. He placed 10th in the 400 meter hurdles at the 2015 Outdoor SEC championships.

High School: Chiles was a two-time state champion in the 300-meter hurdles and 4x100-meter relay his senior year at Western Branch High School in Chesapeake, Virginia. Chiles collected two 2014 New Balance National Champion titles: the 4x55-meter hurdle shuttle relay in the indoor season and the 4x110-meter hurdle shuttle relay in outdoors. He was also a sprint medley all-American.

Chiles on Virginia Tech: “I feel like Virginia Tech is an all-around great fit for me and I can’t wait to contribute to their ACC championship dynasty.”

Assistant coach Tim Vaught on Chiles: “Greg [Chiles] is going to make an instant impact to our team in the 400-meter hurdles. He's also going to bring experience to the relay area. I'm very excited to have him on board. He's a very strong 400-meter hurdler with good foot speed for both 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter relays.”
