LEWISBURG, Pa. – After a successful start to the Bucknell Bison Outdoor Classic on Saturday, the Virginia Tech track & field team’s momentum continued with six top-10 finishes on Sunday.
Freshmen Emily Beatty and Jennifer Fleming began the day with 2-3 finishes in the 3,000 meters. In Beatty’s first 3k of the season, she clocked in at 10:07.90 to place second. Fleming set a new personal record with her 10:09.68 finish, clinching the third spot.
In the 800 meters, Shannon Quinn led the group with a personal best time of 2:11.39 to place third of 90 competitors. Tessa Riley placed 13th, clocking in at 2:12.83 while Alyssa Shupe recorded a personal best, 2:13.83-time. Shalonda Mitchell rounded out the group, placing top-20 in 2:14.50.
On the men’s side, Ciattei’s 1:50.05 earned him second of 129 finishers while Cianfarini clocked in at 1:51.33, clinching fourth, to set personal records for each runner.
The 400-meter dash concluded the Bucknell Bison Outdoor Classic for the Hokies. Rachel Pocratsky led the group with her seventh place mark in 56.98 with Quinn rounding out the top 10. Mitchell also reset a personal best from the 2013 season to wrap up the day.
The Hokies will compete at Auburn (sprinters), Duke (pole vault), and Virginia (jumpers/throwers) on April 22 and 23.
