BLACKSBURG – Following a record-setting weekend, the Virginia Tech track & field team is slated to compete at the Liberty Invitational in Lynchburg and Georgia’s Spec Towns Relays in Athens on Friday and Saturday.
The Hokies’ jumpers and multis competitors will travel to Lynchburg. Mackenzie Muldoon and Emily Miller will represent the team in the decathlon and pentathlon, respectively. David Prince highlights the group as the top seeded athlete in the men’s long jump.
Tech’s sprinters, pole vaulters, and throwers will compete at Georgia’s Spec Towns Invitational in Athens, Georgia. The vaulters and throwers highlighted last weekend’s competition for the Hokies. Darius Watkins leads the group of sprinters as his 200-meter dash time ranks third in the conference.
Events for both meets begin on Friday afternoon and conclude on Saturday.
Last weekend, the team set two program records at the Florida and Texas Relays to highlight Saturday’s results. Marek Barta posted a 60.51-meter (198-6) discus throw at Florida while Torben Laidig cleared the 5.60-meter (18-4.5) height in the pole vault at Texas. Both the men and women’s DMRs earned top finishes at the Colonial Relays on Saturday.
Irena Sediva led the Hokies on Friday at the Florida Relays as the top collegiate finisher in the javelin, marking 57.83 meters (189-9). Brad Johnson took the crown in the section C of the men’s pole vault at Texas while Thomas Curtin did the same in the 10k at the Colonial Relays.
Next weekend, the Hokies will travel to the Bucknell Bison Outdoor Class in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania and the UNC-Charlotte Invitational in North Carolina.
