BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech track & field team will begin its outdoor season at Miami’s Hurricane Invitational on Friday and Saturday at Cobb Stadium. The Hokies will send the sprinters, jumpers, and throwers to compete in Miami.
Reigning national champion Irena Sediva will compete for the first time this season to lead the group of four throwers. The javelin throw begins on Friday at 2 p.m. with the hammer throw at 4 p.m. Jordan Roach will compete in the discus on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Darius Watkins leads the group of sprinters as an all-ACC second team member in 2015. The sprints events begin on Saturday at 1 p.m. Nora McKiver heads into the outdoor season, leading the women’s team, following her fourth place finish in the 200 meters at the indoor conference championships.
Tech’s jumpers will compete both Friday and Saturday. The high jump begins Friday at 4 p.m. while the long jump and triple jump are on Saturday at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., respectively.
Virginia Tech and Miami are the only two ACC schools participating at the Hurricane Invitational. A total of 23 schools round out the field competing at Cobb Stadium.
The Hokies will take a week off before traveling to the Colonial Relays in Williamsburg, Virginia, the Florida Relays in Gainesville and the Texas Relays in Austin.
