GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Following another record-setting weekend, pole vaulter Torben Laidig was named the ACC’s Co-Field Performer of the Week for the third time this season.
Laidig cleared 5.62 meters (18-5.25) at the Virginia Tech “Doc Hale” Elite Meet to set yet another program record and Atlantic Coast Conference record in his second place overall finish. The Schwabish Hall, Germany native reached a personal best mark while also upping the record he set last weekend at the Penn State National Invite.
Laidig now ranks No. 2 in the nation behind Tennessee’s Jake Blankenship who won the event on Saturday.
Laidig was honored with fellow co-performer of the week, NC State’s Jonathan Addison. Addison’s long jump of 8.17 meters (26-9.75) at the Elite Meet earned him the USTFCCCA’s national men’s Division I Athlete of the Week honos as well as a qualifying mark for the USATF Olympic trials.
The Virginia Tech track & field team will be back in action this Friday and Saturday at the Iowa State Classic and Friday at the Samford Invite.
