TORONTO – Former Tech hurdler Queen Harrison dominated the 100-meter hurdles, finishing in 12.52 seconds to earn a gold medal while setting a new Pan American Games record in Toronto last night.
Harrison (’10) shattered the previous Pan Am record in the event, set by both Jamaican Delloreen Ennis-London and Canadian Perdita Pelicen with a time of 12.65 at Rio de Janeiro’s Games in 2007.
After finishing first in her qualifying heat, Harrison was a favorite to take the crown in the 100-meter hurdles. USA took both the gold and silver medals as fellow team USA member, Tenaya Jones followed narrowly behind Harrison to finish in 12.84.
Although Harrison competed and became the NCAA Champion in both the 100-meter and 400-meter hurdles during her final year at Tech, she zoned in on the 100-meter hurdles to make the event her priority the Games – a rewarding decision with a gold medal result.
