BLACKSBURG, VA. - Sophomore pole vaulter Torben Laidig was named to the CoSIDA First Team Academic All-District Three team as announced by the CoSIDA office on Friday afternoon. Honorees are nominated for their performance both in the classroom as well as their respective sport.
Laidig, a two-time All-American in the pole vault and biochemistry major, won the ACC indoor championship in the pole vault in 2014 and followed that up with a runner-up finish at the outdoor championship in the same year. He has sat out the 2015 indoor and outdoor season due to injury.
First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be announced in June after the 2015 CoSIDA Convention. Teams will be announced: June 22: College teams; June 23: Division III; June 24: Division II; June 25: Division I).
To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
