CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The Virginia Tech men’s and women’s track & field teams will be sending participants from all of the event groups to compete against top competition at the 2015 Virginia Challenge hosted by the University of Virginia.
The Virginia Tech women’s track & field team, currently ranked No. 21 in the nation according to the latest USTFCCCA rankings, will look to improve their national standings with some of the Hokies’ best competing.
For the first time during the outdoor season, Hanna Green will be competing in the 800-meter race, her marquee event. Green was crowned the ACC Champion in the same distance during the indoor season as well as a first team All-American.
Shannon Morton will compete in the 1500-meter race. Morton holds the Virginia Tech school record set last summer in the same event. In addition, Sarah Rapp will run her first 10,000-meter race of the season. Tech will also see javelin thrower Eva Vivod competing for the first time this season.
The men’s side is poised to produce some quality performances as well, as several Hokies will be looking to earn top marks at the meet.
Thomas Curtin will run the 10,000-meters for the first time this season. Curtin was a two-time All-American during the indoor season, earning the distinction in both the 3000-meter and 5000-meter distances.
Chris Uhle, currently ranked fifth in the nation, will be competing in the pole vault, while Marek Barta, the current school record holder in the discus throw, will also look to set an even higher standard. Tomas Kruzliak will take his turn at the hammer throw. Kruzliak is the reigning ACC Champion in the event. Manuel Ziegler, the indoor ACC champion in the triple jump, will be competing in the long jump at the Virginia Challenge and Jaka Muhar will make his debut in the javelin.
The meet will begin on Friday and will run through Saturday evening. Live results are available.
