Barta breaks school record in discus
Hokies perform well at Florida Relays, Tiger Track Classic

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Another school record fell as Marek Barta climbed to the top of the Virginia Tech record books in the men’s discus throw to close out the Florida Relays on Saturday evening.

Barta’s mark of 193’01” (58.85m) bested Sven Hahn’s ten-year old record of 189’6” (57.76m) set back in 2005. Barta finished second in the meet behind Penn’s Sam Mattis.

The women’s 4x100-meter relay team of Ama-Selina Tchume, Nora McKiver, Shanel Burr and Courtney Blanden posted a 24th place finish with a time of 46.36 seconds.

The Hokies will be back in action next weekend at the Tennessee Relays.

AUBURN, Ala. - The Hokies posted a two-three-four finish in the men’s pole vault to highlight Tech’s time at the Tiger Track Classic on Saturday evening.

Chris Uhle finished in second place in the men’s pole vault, while Jared Allison and Brad Johnson finished right behind him in third and fourth places, respectively. Uhle posted the same height of 17’02.75” (5.25m) as the first-place finishers, but because Uhle missed one attempt on a previous height he was bumped to second place. Both Johnson and Allison passed on 16’06.75” (5.05m). Jeffrey Linta finished in seventh overall with a mark of 16’00.75” (4.90m) while James Steck finished in 10th with a mark of 15’01.00” (4.60m).

In the women’s pole vault, Emma King and Olivia Privitera finished in a tie for 13th place both hitting a height of 11’01.75” (3.40m).

The Hokies will be back in action next weekend at the Tennessee Relays.
