Hokies head to two separate meets
Tech athletes to compete at Florida Relays, Tiger Track Classic

GAINESVILLE, Fla. and AUBURN, Ala. – The Virginia Tech men’s and women’s track & field teams will split up at two different meets this weekend as the sprinters and throwers head to the Florida Relays hosted by the University of Florida and the pole vaulters will head to Auburn University for the Tiger Track Classic.

At the Florida Relays, several of the Hokies’ top throwers will be competing. The javelin-throwing trio of Irena Sediva, Sabine Kopplin and Eva Vivod will be competing for Tech. This will be Kopplin and Vivod’s first meet of the season. Last season, Vivod set the then-Virginia Tech school record, a record that was bested just last week by teammate Irena Sediva. Tomas Kruzliak will be making his debut in the hammer throw, his marquee event. In 2013, Kruzliak was the NCAA Champion in the event.

Tech’s sprinters will be heading to the Florida Relays. Dante Price and Darius Watkins will be competing in the 100-meter dash. In addition, Price will also compete in the 200-meter dash. Shanel Burr will compete in the women’s 100-meter dash for Tech while Ama-Selina Tchume will compete in the 100-meter dash. Several other Tech sprinters and throwers will be competing at the meet.

Chris Uhle highlights the Hokie pole vaulters at the Auburn Invitational. Jared Allison, Brad Johnson, James Steck and Jeffrey Linta will also be competing on the men’s side while Kristen Lee, Emma King, Erinn Schaal and Olivia Privitera will compete for the women.

The Hokies will compete at the Florida Relays on Friday and Saturday while the pole vaulters will compete on Saturday only at the Auburn Invitational. Live results will be available for both meets. In addition, the Florida Relays will be broadcasted live on the SEC Network+.
