GREENSBORO, N.C. – Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Dave Cianelli was named ACC Men’s Coach of the Year while Manuel Ziegler was named ACC Men’s Field Performer of the Year as announced by the conference office on Friday morning.
On the heels of Southeast Region Coach of the Year honors, Cianelli received the award for the ninth time since arriving at Virginia Tech after leading the men’s track & field team to its third ACC indoor team title. In all, Cianelli has won eight total ACC team titles.
Ziegler earns ACC Men’s Field Performer of the Year honors after winning the ACC Championship in the triple jump and claiming first team All-America honors at the 2015 NCAA DI Indoor Track & Field Championships. Ziegler was the only student-athlete to set an overall conference record during the ACC Championships with his gold-medal men’s triple jump of 16.61 meters (54-6). The effort topped the previous record of 16.57m (54-4.5) by NC State’s Mike Patton that had stood since 1998.
