Ziegler, Green and Curtin earn First Team All-America honors to close out NCAA Championships
Hokies post quality finishes to conclude meet

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Manuel Ziegler, Hanna Green and Thomas Curtin all earned First Team All-America honors to pace the Hokies on the final day of the 2015 NCAA DI Indoor Track & Field Championships.

Ziegler posted a fourth-place finish in the men’s triple jump to claim First Team All-America honors for the second time in his career. Ziegler’s second jump proved to be his best as he leaped out to a mark of 54’2” (16.53m). Ziegler’s jump tied with the third-place finisher, but because Louisville’s Ben Williams hit the same distance on his first attempt, Ziegler got moved to second.

Green, competing in the women’s 800-meter race, finished in fifth-place with a time of 2:05.29. Green, who reset her own school record last night in the prelims of the 800, earned First Team All-America Honors for the first time in her career. She earned Second Team All-America honors last season at the outdoor championships.

Curtin for the second time in as many nights was named a First Team All-American after finishing in eighth place in the men’s 3000-meter race with a time of 8:03.56. Curtin led the field until five laps remained, but was unable to sustain his pace and ultimately fell to eighth place. Curtin earned First Team All-America honors last night in the men’s 5000-meter race as well.

In all, the Hokies earned four First Team All-America honors on the weekend with Curtin leading the way earning two of those honors.

The Hokies will begin the outdoor season next weekend when a group of athletes heads to Miami for the Hurricane Invitational.
