BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech track & field team will host its second meet of the season when Tech welcomes 15 men’s teams and 18 women’s teams to Rector Field House on Friday and Saturday for the Hokie Invitational.
Four other ACC schools (Duke, North Carolina, NC State and Wake Forest) and one SEC school (Tennessee) will be in attendance. The North Carolina women are ranked No. 25 in the latest USTFCCCA Poll.
Last weekend, the Hokies had several quality performances, most notably Manuel Ziegler’s triple jump. Ziegler won the triple jump at the Virginia Tech Invitational. Ziegler’s mark of 53’00.75” (16.17m) placed him second nationally behind Eastern Michigan’s Donald Scott. Ziegler’s impressive jump also sits him atop of the ACC leaderboard in the triple jump and places him second overall in the Virginia Tech record book behind former Hokie great Hasheem Halim.
For his performance, Ziegler was named ACC Men’s Field Performer of the Week. This is the second time this season that a Hokie has received the honor after Chris Uhle earned the award a week prior.
Friday’s events will start at 5 p.m. while Saturday’s events will begin promptly at 11 a.m. Live results will be available for the meet.
